This ministry was created during the second Vatican Council, 1962-1965, to enable lay people to assist priest and deacons in the administration of Holy Communion. They are also delegated to visit the homebound and hospitalized, and bring them the Holy Eucharist. The Extraordinary Ministers are certified by the Archdiocese. (Centennial Jubilee pg. 62)
